Global STEM: Taking Action
Here are some great local resources to help get started in globalizing education:
1. Trout in the Classroom: South Carolina Department of Resources, in partnership with Trout Unlimited, provide grants for K-12 classes to raise trout from eggs to fingerlings, then release back into the wild. There are a wealth of lesson plans included in this project to tie wildlife management and environmental stewardship back into almost any discipline.
2. Columbia World Affairs Council: This organization holds many events aimed at bringing the world to the Midlands. They also have a fairly impressive list of resources that can be used for globalizing any content.
3. The Center for Global Education: This organization has a wealth of resources for educators, exchange students, and anyone interested in global understanding.
4. South Carolina's new Profile of a South Carolina Graduate has several references to the importance of a global perspective in our state economy. The Department of Education's website has many references listed by subject to help achieve the objectives outline in the profile.
5. Global Education Day in South Carolina is usually the first weekend in April, and showcases the many cultures and contributions present in the state.
